A
relationship that goes back 63 years includes so many memories.
Most of them fond memories, except for the many strikes that
hurt us all and left some bitter memories. One memorry that
comes to mind. In 1949 I was finally going to become a flight
dispatcher having been the successfull bidder on vacancy in
Cairo.
The trip to Cairo was a wonderful experience, great crew who had
all sorts of advice on what to do and expect in the layover in
Paris.
Same
crew from Paris to Cairo but in a DC-4 , not the beautiful 749.
It was an all day tripwith stops at GVA, ROM, and ATH. By the
time we approached Egypt it was late afternoon. Making landfall
over the desert just west of Alexandria the sun was low in the
horizon, a huge ball of fire relecting only more fire off the
desert floor. I thought to myself -"what in the hell have I got
myself into?". In turned out to be one of the many wonderful
experiences I enjoyed during my active years with TWA. Eight
years in Cairo was filled with delightfull friendships. |
