After having enjoyed working there for 10 years it certainly is a very sad day for all of us who loved this building and the people who occupied it.

I worked for TWA from November 1999 to July 2001. I really enjoyed my stint as the Manager of Passenger Sales in SJU.

I already miss my extended TWA family. God bless each and everyone of you.

Like a long lost love, TWA will forever be a part of me.

My dad is 81 and worked for TWA from May, 1941 to 1977 when he was forced to retire at 57 due to heart problems. He still lives and breathes TWA and is so sad to see it go. We all thought TWA would outlive him, but I guess not. Dad worked both at JFK and SFO. I love to hear his many stories about TWA, especially about his meeting Lindberg's mechanic and Howard Hughes. I feel like I am losing part of him with the death of TWA. Long live this wonderful website.

I love TWA..... I saw it at it's best days when TWA was flying into Frankfurt and from Frankfurt operating to Bombay, Istanbul and Berlin. I was standing with all Frankfurt employees at the gate on January 13th 1997 when the last flight TW741 left to JFK and we heard the song "..time to say good-bye" and our hearts were bleeding!- We all hoped we'll see TWA coming back to Frankfurt... Working for FAG at the baggage service department made me also working for TWA. We are handling a lot of airlines like US Air, Continental, Northwest, Singapore Airlines p.e. but TWA was and is my first and big love. Over the years I made friends with TWA collegues in SFO, JFK, AMS, TLV which I'll never forget. Thank you to all this friends like Bob Carter ( STL ), Uri ( TLV ), Alex + ( AMS ) Joe and Eunice Auer and Cloe ( JFK ). I will remember you and never forget our conversations on FTG. Hug you all and my heart is with you

Only worked at TWA for 2 years in the Internet group keeping TWA.com healthy, but it still is painful to see all the signs coming down and the best livery in the business being destroyed. Even sadder for me is watching TWA.com being reduced to what is has become today. We never had much money to match the big boys' sites, but we did the best with what we had and hopefully put on a good show and provided a good product. Goodbye, TW.

TWA 800 critics cry cover-up again

If police had boxes full of potential evidence in a mass murder investigation involving 230 lives, you would think it odd that they would be throwing them away but News 12 Long Island has learned exclusively, that is exactly what the government is doing.

News 12 Long Island has learned exclusively that the National Transportation Safety Board has been secretly disposing of tons of the TWA wreckage and its all been junked here in this Coram metals recycling yard. Curious, says critic Reed Irvine, speaking from Washington, since the government spent millions to recover the wreckage from the ocean.

"I was totally shocked, this is an outrage,” said Irvine. “The whole TWA 800 affair has been one deception, cover-up after another and this is the final and most outrageous, one of the most outrageous things they could have done."

Independent investigators have been petitioning the government for access to the wreckage since July of 1996, after hundreds of eyewitnesses reported seeing a missile collide with the Boeing 747.

Investigators like former pilot Howard Mann who has never been allowed to get near the Calverton hanger where the plane was re-constructed.

"You know Aviation Week-Space Technology magazine, they took a poll, 66% of the people that answered the poll said they're not satisfied with what the N.T.S.B. said about what happened to this airplane, and everyplace we look that's what we see, cover-up."

No comment from the PK metals recycling yard, but this we do know, beginning in July of this year and continuing for about a month, huge chunks of the Boeing 747 were recycled here. The NTSB says the case is still technically "open" but they've concluded that center fuel tank vapors caused the disaster.

While they've retained a portion of the re-construction, one engine and a few aluminum pieces, junked and recycled, are key parts, say critics. Look carefully at these pictures obtained by News 12 Long Island, you'll see three of the 747 engines in a dumpster, and also you can see some of the aluminum wings and tail assembly, and here, all of the aircraft wiring along with the landing gear.

Not seen but gone are the cabin seats and interior components. One of those critics is writer Jerry Cimisi.

"Actually by the government doing that, it just adds more fuel to the thoughts of many people that it is a cover-up, so you know, in a sense, they're harming their own position."

Confronted with this information the N.T.S.B. now admits the plane was junked, but claimed ‘it was an expensive proposition to store the wreckage. We notified the courts, the families and the parties to the lawsuits.’

Investigative filmmaker Jim Sanders however says that's a lie. He is suing former N.T.S.B. chairman Hall and others, after he says he was falsely imprisoned along with his wife for simply running lab tests on a small piece of airline seat material he obtained.

He says the test came up positive for missile fuel. The N.T.S.B. though says the red material was just glue used by the seat manufacturer. Though Sanders never set foot in the hangar, the government charged him with removing property from a crash scene, a felony.

In a statement he tells us: "The N.T.S.B. knew they were ordering evidence related to a civil case alleging serious criminal charges against senior agents of the U.S. to be destroyed. I was never notified."

"You know I suspect it was the papers served on Chairman Hall that probably motivated them to go ahead and get rid of the evidence because they simply don't want the evidence that shows that the plane was brought down by missiles and not by a fuel tank explosion, they don't want that seen by outside experts,” said Irvine.

Now, police and F.B.I. guidelines require all evidence involving a pending case to be stored not discarded, until the case is solved. One local police department, for example, has been keeping evidence for 70 years and says they wouldn't dream of throwing it away.

The F.B.I. and N.T.S.B. say however, they've violated no rules by junking most of the TWA wreckage before a final cause of the crash is found.

did 34 1/2 years. spent 3 years 5 numbers from the bottom of the list. survived it all, not without some stress two things really allowed me to fall in and come out smelling like a rose. 1. spent lst two years with Nippon Cargo which served to recoup some of the lost retirement monies we had lost with givebacks. #2 - i got out in 1990 before the company started raping the retirement plans and i was able to get lump sum on both. all in all, quite an experience -

My wife and I watched the last TWA flight from terminal 5, JFK, and it was a sad evening indeed. I spent 38 years of my life at JFK, hangar 12 as a crew chief. They were amoung the happiest years of my life. I will forever cherish these memories of dear friends and good times gone forever. TWA will always be first class with me. Should auld acquaintance be forgot. My best wishes to all and thanks for the memories. Dom Kelly, crew chief, JFK,NY

It is now January 24th, 2002. I still see the TWA Logos on the tails of our aircraft and we are still TWALLC. What American Airlines has in store for us only the future can tell. Today, 20 more 717 pilots are being layed off. It seems we are the brunt of whatever American wants to do with us. The TWU wants us sent back to 0 Seniority, and the IAM wants 40.00 dollars month for what. It seems we are American but not really American. Anyway, even with the bad times we had at TWA it was a great Airline and a big part of our lives. I came from Ozark Airlines in 1986, another great airline, and found out quickly that Carl Icahn had already destroyed a great Airline. Every year it seemed we made it through another year, and the next, and the next. I do, however, thank TWA for the experience of meeting new people and making new friends. My best wishes to all and hopefully we can say something good about our experiences to come at AMR. St. Louis Crew Chief.

Great site. I'm glad one of my TWA friend(and fellow co-worker) sent it to me.. I've been with TWA since Feburary 1973, when I started in Indy. I got laid-off in 79, and since then have been in STL. As most of us(I guess), went through all the good and bad times, but honestly, have made a lot of good friends down through the years, and wouldn't have been happier anywhere else. Since we acquiared Ozark Airlines in 86, have made bunches of new(hopefully) lifetime friends. I can only hope for the same with AA. Best of life and happiness to all of us TWA'ers. Indiana Dave (Dunn)

Hi this is Sam laid off a&P mech from SFO. After 35+ years, Nice of AA to lay all of us off & scatter those that went to other stations. So much for the union protecting our jobs. I was home listining to the news when i firsr heard AA was buying TWA first thing that went thru my mind was oh oh were shafted cause of the different unions involved. Looks like i may have been right as AA managed to rid themselves of all the TWA high seniority people.

But looking back on it all I have no regrets, none, of ever being at TWA, im proud of being part of history working for the greatest airline in the world.......thank you TWA!

I was a TWA employee from Feb.20 1956 until Jan.31st, 1998. It was very sad to see such a great company's logo disappear. I have so many fantastic memories of the good old days, and have so many TWA friends.. My life would have been drastically different had I never been employed at TWA. The trips my family were able to experience are just a small part of all the good things about my life at TWA. Betty Finn Sugg

Those of us who were lucky enough to have been with TWA during the 60's and 70's were truly blessed. The skies were blue and the future CAVU, (Clear, And Visibility Unlimited). We hadn't yet slipped into the factionalism that came later and sometimes colored our TWA experiences. As a retiree, I think that AA is treating us "almost" as well as can be expected, but I don't know if I can ever forgive the individual AA emplyees for putting our working brothers and sisters, not just in the back of the bus, but in a creaky old trailer being pulled behind the bus. Best wishes to all of us, Richard Ruff, retired pilot mostly SFO, with some STL and JFK thrown in

What a great Airline to be connected with. From 61-92 I am honored to be a part of good and bad times happy and sad times, but always having it there, started in CHI , SFO,LAX and ended career in ABQ, the advantage it gave me in meeting great people, travel, and even a pension, since I was early retired I will be grateful, and never forget this wonderful organization and its fellow employees. The hard work of the dedicated employees kept this great airline standing tall in spite of all the roadblocks that were continually being placed in their way. I consider myself very lucky to have been a part of this PROUD TWA FAMILY. TWA sure has been good to me and my family. I was totally wrong. TWA was an incredible company to work for. Not because of the top, but becaus of the grass root and middle managmnent. Though I keep in touch with many, I really miss the the total TWA family.

As a former Flight attedant/ Purser for TW, I cannot believe this wonderful airline has disapeared forever!! I was first hired in 1976, and flew my last flight from JFK to LHR on 12/00. Twenty one years is a long time. They were wonderful years, and have made many many friends. I worked the ol' 707, L1011, and the 757, and worked on the 747. My last flight was on a 767. How sad it was to see the cabin strippers come on board and take all the stuff out to make room for AA. TW will forever live in my heart! I will never forget the friends I made nor will I forget the ol' training academy in Overland Park!!:) Great website!! Would like to see more!:)

Just got back from the 1st TWA reunion at JFK Ramada. It was great to see old friends that I not not seen for over 4years.Nothing changed, just a great atmosphere hanging. I had 29 years, ----15yrs in TLV, 6yrs in LHR, 5yrs in CDG,then finished my time with 4yrs at JFK. It was a great time to work for a "proper" airline. Started with the 707, and finished with the 757/767. I,m still pissed with upper management and the NSTB.!!! Good luck to all. Keep up the good work with this web site. Your tribute to TWA is great and I look forward to seeing it develop and grow. Although our town (Des Moines, IA) was not served by TWA until 1981, I recall reading about TWA jetliners in a children's book about a flight across the North Atlantic ocean (which dated from the early 1960s). Later, I read a manual about weather and flying by a TWA captain named Robert Buck; this book confirmed my belief that TWA's pilots were the best. I hope the memory of TWA will inspire other airlines and others who wish to make air travel and aviation a career.

It afforded me a chance in a life time travel (when it was a primo airline) Africa, HongKong, Europe, Fiji, NewZealand, Australia ...what a life I had! what adventure! what friends! what tenaciousness one had to have to endure the ups and downs!
